3 Keys for Peak Performance on Game Day

Peak Performance: Improve Your Results

All competitors are looking for the keys to peak performance.  Whether you're an athlete, business person, or entertainer, at some point you're going to need some extra attention to detail to take your game to another level.

Preparation:  A good friend Cam Turner once told me, "it takes a lot of work just to lose.” Now imagine what it takes to win!

Arthur Ashe said, “One important key to success is self-confidence. An important key to self-confidence is preparation.”

Preparation is your ability to do the right things daily over and over and over again for years until it is wired into your DNA. Preparation is the precursor to winning. Pittsburgh Steeler great Jack Youngblood once said, “Good luck is a residue of preparation.”

Study: Your performance will be in part due to your willingness to study. This includes studying your weaknesses relating to your anatomy, your physical ability, and studying the environment in which you will compete.

Clarity = Peak Performance

You should have a clear understanding of the schedule and requirements before you step on the field, court or racetrack. Great NBA and NFL players have a clear understanding of the rule book.

They know what areas they can push to the limits and also the areas they need to back down down the aggression.

In the business world, this would include having a clear understanding of your audience, customers, and employees. What motivates them, what actions reduce productivity so that your strategy is built on getting results.

Determination: This is really a forgotten trait.  Have you worked on building up your willpower?

Typically, the harder you work the harder it is to quit, lose, or simply not finish what you started. Your determination is a belief that you build internally. This is a characteristic that separates the good from the great from the elite. Write down clearly what you want, paste it on your bathroom mirror and ask yourself daily, "what am I willing to do to make this happen?"
